My Experience Using Lipsense

I know I know, I am way late in the game when it comes to trying Lipsense. It’s funny it took me so long because not only do I love makeup, but lipstick/gloss is my favorite makeup genre. I own probably over 100 lip products…so yeah, I like anything that has to do with lips. But, while I had heard of it and read all of the reviews about it and how amazing it is, I also knew the price ($55 for just the starter kit!!) and I just could never bring myself to spend that much on something I had never tried before, let alone knew if I’d like or not.
But, I have now tried it and wanted to let you guys know my experience with it and what I thought of it.
HOW I GOT INTO IT: I had a distributor contact me, Charlene, through Instagram. She asked if I wanted to purchase it. She wasn’t the first person to do this…I’ve had many people try and sell me Lipsense, and I’ve always politely declined. And it was no different with Charlene. I just simply told her that while I was interested in the product, I wasn’t interested in the price. She offered to send me the starter kit to review for my blog, and when she did that, I, of course, was ecstatic! I let her know it would be writing an honest review of what I thought (as I do with all the products I review on here) and she went ahead and gave me some color options to look at online. After going back and forth between a few colors (there are so many pretty ones!), I ended up choosing Mulled Wine.
When I got her package in the mail, not only did it include The Starter Kit (the kit includes the color, the gloss and oops remover), but she sent some super helpful instructions and tips & tricks for a newcomer like me to look over and follow (and can we just talk about how cute they are??). I loved that she did that, just because I had heard that Lipsense was a little more complicated to apply than your normal lipcolor/gloss. These were so great to have for trying it my first time!
APPLYING IT: I was a little nervous to use it, I’ll be honest. You hear it’s obviously more permanent than a normal lip color (that’s the whole concept behind it after all), so putting it on, you need to do it right. Granted, theres the Oops Remover just in case you mess up, but I didn’t want to mess up.
I don’t know what I was fretting about, Charlene’s instructions for applying the lip color were super easy and straightforward. All I had to do was wipe my lips with a warm washcloth to make sure my lips were clean. Then I just had to apply the color 3 times, waiting 5-10 seconds in between each application while not letting my lips touch. Easy enough. Then, I put the gloss on top of it. And then I was done! Took less than 2 minutes from start to finish. Easy peasy.
I was lucky and didn’t mess up applying it my first time, but I was very happy and felt reassured having the Oops Remover there, in case I did happen to make a mistake while putting it on.

THOUGHTS ON THE COLOR: I really like the color I chose. It is pretty pigmented…though I had to apply it the full 3 times for it to become as pigmented as it is in the photos, but since that’s the process you are supposed to follow using Lipsense, I’ll say it’s as pigmented as it should be. It looks exactly like it did in the sample I saw online, so I am very happy with that.

EXPERIENCE WEARING IT: I was pretty impressed starting out with it! Once I put on the gloss, my lips felt extremely moisturized and, right after applying the gloss I wiped my lips on my finger, and my finger came back bare. I also felt like my lips didn’t have anything heavy on them, which I sometimes feel when I put on a dark lip. I loved that!
After applying it I went to meet a friend for lunch and a playdate, and we ate and drank and I kept kissing my baby’s head and rubbing my lips together all day. I am happy to say, it never budged. I kissed my husband throughout the afternoon as well and nada. The instructions did say to apply the gloss before eating or kissing, which I did my best to do each time, but didn’t always, and they stayed moisturized almost the entire day, and it never came off. I loved drinking from a cup and not seeing any lipstick marks on it, and my husband loved kissing me without worrying about color getting everywhere. I have worn the same application for 11+ hours and have not once reapplied it, and it’s still on. It’s faded a little bit, but not enough for anyone to really notice. So it is definitely long-lasting and does what it says it will do.
And, a *BIG PERK* about this is that my hair didn’t get stuck in the gloss! That may sound dumb, but one of my ultimate pet-peeves is when I have just applied my lipgloss or lip color, then I go outside and it’s windy and my hair gets all up in my lipgloss. I can’t stand that! This gloss was super moisturizing and a little thicker-feeling (which I loved, I like thick glosses), but it wasn’t sticky! I LOVED THAT!

REMOVING IT: All I had to do to remove it was use the Oops Remover. I used it like a gloss on my lips, let it sit for a couple seconds, then got a warm wet paper-towel and wiped and scrubbed a little. I had to continue this process a few times, but it came off pretty easily after doing that 3 times. And I need to say, my lips did not feel dry after removing it. I was worried they would so I was happy they still felt moisturized.
THE VERDICT: I love it and I would definitely recommend it! I wouldn’t say I would use this every single day, just because I know how expensive it is and I don’t have the money to spend to wear it each day. But, I will be buying a few more in different colors. I liked it enough to want to wear it for a day out and about in the city when I don’t want to keep reapplying my color, or for a date night when I want to kiss my husband without worrying about the color getting everywhere.
I am so thrilled I finally got to try Lipsense, and wanted to give a huge shoutout to Charlene Holbrook for collaborating with me in trying it! She was amazing to work with, and sent the entire package super duper fast!
