How To Go 10 Days Without Washing Your Hair
In my last post I talked about why I go at least 10 days without washing my hair. I am hoping it made sense, and I can’t explain how excited I was for all the feedback from all you cuties who said you couldn’t wait to detail how I do it and which products I use! Well, I’m here to keep my post promise! Let’s get started π

Products & Accessories I use to go 10 days without washing:
- Hairspray
- Dry Shampoo
- Just switched to this kind literally like 4 days ago and it’s amazing!
- Sea Salt Spray
- Elastics
- Elastic Headband
- Bobby Pins (the best bobby’s ever!)
- Comb
- Flat Iron
Lather, Rinse, Repeat:
For the longest time I was washing my hair like a normal person…in steaming hot water when I was in the shower. Well, since I dyed my hair red, I have been washing it in cooler water…not freezing (well, sometimes if I am really not wanting any fading) but cool; bearable if you will. It’s not bad, and at first I was just doing it strictly for the sake of saving my color…but since I have been doing this, I have noticed that my hair doesn’t get as greasy as fast.
I wash my hair twice usually because I go so long between washes (I use this). Then, I get as much water out of my hair as possible by twisting it before I condition. I condition just do the bottom half of my hair with this stuff…it’s pure gold for your hair. And yes, it’s a tad expensive, but I have literally had this thing in my bathroom for over 2 years. It lasts forever because it’s huge. Once I coat the bottom of my hair (I use about a Silver Dollar’s worth of product), then I leave it in while I wash and shave. I only coat the bottom half because putting it on your roots will grease them right up. After about 10 minutes, I rinse it in cold water.
Once I’m done and I’ve towel dried my hair, I use this serum because not only is it conditioning, it’s meant to help your wet hair dry faster, and guys, it works. I’ve been using it since 2010. I can’t live without it. And just like the conditioner, I only put it on the bottom half of my hair.
Now, I’m usually in a hurry, so I blow-dry my hair. But, if I wasn’t, I would definitely let it air dry. I don’t think either one changes my process of going 10 days without washing. But, if I do blow-dry, I try to blow it on the cooler side if I have time. It adds shine.
Styling
Days: 1-2
Products used:
Possibly Sea Salt Spray (if curl needs a little boost)
Once my hair is dry, I either straighten it or do loose curls just on the bottom half of my hair. I do this because I don’t have to put any product in it besides hairspray and maybe a spritz or two of the sea salt spray. I don’t want hardly any product in it just yet because the more product I put in it, the dirtier it will become and the sooner I will have to wash it. Since I am going 10 days, there is plenty of time for product.
Days: 3-4
Products used:
(Possibly Dry Shampoo)

Yes, I go 3 days, sometimes 4 doing the same hairstyle. I do this because it’s fast, easy, and it’s not greasy at all yet so why not?
Day 3: Same as Day 1 & 2
Day 4: Sometimes I make it to Day 4 and either the top part of my hair is giving me grief or it’s bugging me styling it the same, so I’ll put it half up. If I need to do this, I will do a very slight coat of dry shampoo just on my roots on the very top layer of my hair (well, the most top part without it showing). DO NOT OVERDO IT! This is key to keeping your hair going for another 6 days. The more dry shampoo you put in, the faster it will need to be washed. I know that sounds cliche, but overly dry and frizzy hair is almost worse to work with than greasy, at least in my opinion. So just do a tiny bit, wait for it, then rub it in and see if it’s manageable. If not, spray a tiny bit more.
Quick Sidenote: Guys, this dry shampoo is literally amazing. Yes, a little pricey, but, it doesn’t make my hair nearly as dry or as frizzy. I went and got a blowout last week at H2blow Blow-dry Bar and the girl who was styling me used it on my hair before we washed it and it was AMAZING! And I went in there with 13-day hair! Smells like heaven and was super light on my hair. Loved it so much I ended up bringing it home with me π
Days: 5-6
Products used:
Hat (old) Similar

Day 5: I love hats! I didn’t start wearing them until like a year and a half ago, and I can’t believe I went that long! They are the biggest time-saver ever! Regardless if I pull my hair half up or not on Day 4, I can still wear a hat on Day 5. Sometimes my curls are still okay enough that I don’t need to touch them up, but most of the time, I need to take the 10 minutes it takes and touch them up real quick. No dry shampoo needed this day, just a spritz of hairspray and sea salt on the bottom of your curls.
Day 6: Now this is when I start needing the dry shampoo! It’s been almost a week without washing and it’s been down most, if not all of that time. Like I said before, don’t do too much. And if your bangs are overly greasy by this point, you can either just wash your bangs (or honestly the top half of your head if you want), or you can spray the dry shampoo throughout your entire bang, not just the root. I do this all the time. It works like a charm. Again, key is not over doing it. If you over-do it, your hair won’t style anymore. It won’t matter how much heat you put on it, you will have to either throw it up or wash it. Doing just a little amount on the entire bang takes away the grease and lets you curl like new π The reason I throw the rest of it up is because it is starting to get greasy from being on my neck for so long. By putting it up, it’s getting a ton of hairspray put in it without having the chance to get greasier because it’s in a bun and not touching my skin (I always set the bun in place with a little more hairspray than it needs for this reason).
*Hair Tip: Dry Shampoo helps keep your back-combing in so well! If you ever can’t get your back-comb to stay in, use a little dry shampoo then try it again. It works wonders.
Days: 7-8

Day 7: This is when I always do my messy wavy curls. My hair is dirty enough, it has enough product that those curls will hold and stay there. If I do this style on the same day I was my hair, my hair will be flat by the end of the day. Dirty hair is key for keeping curls locked in! Along with my waves I make sure to spray both hairspray and sea salt spray throughout my curls. Keeps them looking piecey and more stylish in my opinion. Also, backcombing is key to getting to the 10th day. This will help your hair not get as greasy. I backcomb my hair always just cause I need more volume, but it really does help keep your style in and from your hair getting greasier than it already is.
Day 8: Now this day I can usually wear my hair down in messy waves again (sometimes I’ll apply more dry shampoo to the bangs if need be). But, if my bangs need a break from being on my face, I throw it back like this. Those curls are still there because your hair is dirty enough to hold them, so I retouch a few pieces then put the top half up to give it a break. Again, use some sea salt and hairspray to secure the curls. Not too much though.
Days: 9-10

Day 9: You can switch these two styles out. They don’t have to be in this order. But anyways, at this point, your hair most likely needs to just be up. So I just do different ways of putting it up for the last two days. I love doing this side bun (backcombing is so necessary for this style) and you already have your curls going so no need to put any effort in that way. Your bangs will be back down from being pulled back, and if they are extra greasy at this point, use that dry shampoo! Spray it through to the ends of them, lightly but enough to get the grease out of there. Those bangs in those pictures above are going on day 12-13 I believe, so I know yours can last! If they absolutely cannot, wash them. It takes 5 minutes and then you don’t need to fuss over them.
Day 10: Ah! You made it! I love pulling my hair up into this easy updo. It’s different, requires hardly any time and I get compliments each time I wear it. Again, just your bangs are out so you only need to worry about them. If they are struggling, even with the dry shampoo in them, spray a tiny bit of sea salt onto them and scrunch them…that helps mine when they are on their very last leg.
And there you have it! My exact routine of how I go 10 days without washing my hair. I hope this helps some of you! Just remember, if you can’t go this long, try to go as long as you can. It took me a long time to get to this point. And if you don’t want to go that long, just go a few days. Hopefully some of these tips will help you no matter how long you go between washes π Let me know if you have any questions!
*I will be doing tutorials on all of these hairstyles. I’ve had so many of you ask for them so I can’t wait to get started on them!
Thanks for reading babes!
